How does a car seeded sixth beat Lane McGhee, the TQ, when he led 16 laps? Dallas Boyd averaged 15.872 a lap to Lane McGhee's 16.632 and ran 94.49%, the cleanest main in the A and better than anything he's put up on a club night. He led lap 5 alone, took the front back on lap 18 and beat Lane McGhee to the flag by 12.899 seconds. A magnificent drive, and it came off one full qualifier: an 18-lap Q3, after his Q2 lasted 5 laps.

    A-main P2 · qualified P1 · qual best lap 15.007 · 92.72% qual cons · 20 laps · fast 15.091 · 84.57% cons

Lane McGhee TQ'd with 19 laps in 5:03.866, led 16 of the 19 racing laps in the main, and lost. He was in front at the end of lap 17 and 12.899 seconds behind Dallas Boyd two laps later, which is a lot of race to give back that late. That 84.57% was the scrappiest anyone ran in the A, from a driver who'd just qualified at 93.25%, the steadiest he's run in 17.5 anywhere on the site. I'll give him every lap through 17 and hold the last two against him.

    Colby Rogers 94 pts
    A-main P3 · qualified P2 · qual best lap 14.737 · 87.70% qual cons · 19 laps · fast 14.833 · 86.46% cons

Nobody in this class went quicker tonight than Colby Rogers, in qualifying or in the main. His 14.684 is the best lap he has on the site, and his 14.833 was the hot lap of the A. Then he averaged 16.928 and finished 19 laps to Dallas Boyd's 20. An 86.46% run is a long way from the 95.36% he put up in Sizzling R4 qualifying, and with the quickest car in the class, that gap is on him.

    James Dewild 92 pts
    A-main P4 · qualified P5 · qual best lap 15.169 · 91.49% qual cons · 19 laps · fast 15.251 · 90.51% cons

Two fights in one A-main, and James Dewild came out ahead in both. He ran neck and neck with Matt McGhee for 10 laps and with Mark Beach for 9, then finished 0.506 ahead of Matt McGhee with Beach 4.542 behind him. His 16.888 average was quicker than Colby Rogers' 16.928, and 1.371 seconds was all that stood between him and the podium. I'd have given him third on that average alone.

  5. 5th
    Matt McGhee 90 pts
    A-main P5 · qualified P4 · qual best lap 15.644 · 96.95% qual cons · 19 laps · fast 15.575 · 92.43% cons

Matt McGhee went at it with James Dewild for 10 laps and ended up 0.506 seconds behind, with the same lap count. That half-second cost him the fourth place he'd qualified for. His 96.95% in qualifying was the steadiest run anybody in the class put together all night, a personal best in 17.5 anywhere on the site, and the main slipped to 92.43%. On margins this thin, that slip is the one I'd point at.

    A-main P6 · bumped up from the B · qualified P7 · qual best lap 15.788 · 91.48% qual cons · 19 laps · fast 15.535 · 92.83% cons

Mark Beach transferred out of the B and spent 9 laps of the A-main inside two seconds of James Dewild. He finished 4.542 seconds behind Dewild anyway. His 15.535 in the main was quicker than any lap Matt McGhee turned tonight, but a 17.156 average was the slowest of the four cars that finished on 19 laps, and that's where sixth came from. Beating Jaxson McKee, the other transfer, is fine, but that speed was there for more.

  7. 7th
    Jaxson McKee 86 ptsbumped up
    A-main P7 · bumped up from the B · qualified P8 · qual best lap 15.710 · 86.02% qual cons · 18 laps · fast 15.727 · 89.33% cons

Fourth-quickest in qualifying at 15.161, a site best for him, and Jaxson McKee still had to go through the B, because 18 laps was the most any of his qualifiers produced. He transferred, and the A told the same story: 18.015 a lap, slower on average than anyone else in it, and 18 laps when every car ahead of him managed at least 19. The 15.161 driver needs to show up for a whole main.

  8. 8th
    C4 84 pts
    A-main P8 · qualified P3 · qual best lap 15.404 · 93.06% qual cons · 8 laps · fast 15.863 · 94.03% cons

Charlie Kleinhagen's only qualifier was Q3, and 19 laps in 5:12.211 seeded him third. C4's main stopped at 8 laps and 2:03.020, and that one figure undoes a good night. Up to then he was averaging 16.947, a hair off Colby Rogers' 16.928, at a 94.03% only Dallas Boyd beat in the A. On those numbers he belonged in the podium fight, which makes 8 laps hurt all the more.

    B-main P3 · qualified P9 · qual best lap 16.319 · 87.72% qual cons · 16 laps · fast 16.877 · 81.92% cons

A 16.319 in qualifying is 0.633 quicker than Steve Spears has gone on a club night, and he qualified at 89.00%, his steadiest 17.5 run on the site. His B-main came in scrappier at 81.92%, but nobody who stayed in it beat him home, and Russell Rima was 23.848 seconds back with 16 laps of his own. He held his ninth seed, and the qualifying is what earned it.

  11. 10th
    Russell Rima 80 pts
    B-main P4 · qualified P12 · qual best lap 17.283 · 88.74% qual cons · 16 laps · fast 16.945 · 83.97% cons

Russell Rima saved his best for the main. His 16.945 in the B was 0.338 quicker than anything he turned in qualifying, and 16 laps kept Donnie Schroeder 1.380 seconds behind him. That's two places better than his twelfth seed, and it came after a Q2 cut short at 10 laps and 3:32.924. I like a driver who gets quicker when it pays.

  12. 11th
    Donnie Schroeder 78 pts
    B-main P5 · qualified P10 · qual best lap 17.474 · 92.62% qual cons · 16 laps · fast 17.731 · 76.33% cons

Donnie Schroeder put together the second-steadiest qualifying run in the class, 93.63%, behind only Matt McGhee, and it's the best consistency in 17.5 on his site record. The B came in at 76.33%, and that driver went missing. Russell Rima, two seeds behind him, finished 1.380 seconds ahead with 16 laps apiece. Seeded tenth and finished eleventh, and that main is why.

  13. 12th
    Zach Spears 76 pts
    B-main P6 · qualified P11 · qual best lap 17.545 · 90.32% qual cons · 15 laps · fast 17.409 · 73.90% cons

Big step forward for Zach Spears in qualifying: a 17.213, 1.820 quicker than his best on a club night and the quickest he's been on the site. In the main he went the other way, 73.90% after a 90.32% qualifying, and 15 laps left him one short of Donnie Schroeder. The speed is the hard part, and he has it now.

  14. 13th
    Jordan Fortuno 74 pts
    B-main P7 · qualified P13 · qual best lap 18.195 · 88.95% qual cons · 14 laps · fast 17.442 · 82.32% cons

Jordan Fortuno came out of Q3 with zero laps and answered in the B with a 17.442, 0.753 better than his best qualifying lap and his quickest lap anywhere on the site. Both Fortunos ran 14 laps there, and Jordan Fortuno finished 2.884 seconds ahead of Joes Fortuno to hold his thirteenth seed. That's a proper bounce from a zero.

  15. 14th
    Joes Fortuno 72 pts
    B-main P8 · qualified P14 · qual best lap 20.353 · 89.16% qual cons · 14 laps · fast 19.239 · 80.42% cons

Joes Fortuno's 17.147 in qualifying beat the best lap of four drivers seeded above him, and he was still seeded last, because no run of his got past 13 laps. He got 14 in the B, more than any qualifier, but his quickest lap there was 19.239, and Jordan Fortuno beat him by 2.884 seconds. I want to see that qualifying lap in a main.

This list runs in overall order rather than by main — the A-main, then the B, then the C, as one continuous run — and a driver who bumped up appears once in it, at the finish that scored. The table above has each main as its own race.

Championship after Round 1

Lane McGhee TQ'd, had the lead for 16 laps and lost the A-main to Dallas Boyd, who was seeded sixth and took the lead for good on lap 18. Boyd won it on steadiness, 94.49% to Lane McGhee's 84.57%, and finished 12.899 seconds clear. Colby Rogers had the quickest lap in qualifying and in the main and finished a lap down in third, which is all the proof I need that this A-main paid for clean laps over quick ones. The closest finish in the A came further back, where James Dewild and Matt McGhee ran together for 10 laps and crossed 0.506 apart. Boyd leads with 100 points and Lane McGhee is second with 96 points, and after one round of six that's the finishing order and nothing more.

Through Round 1 the drop rule has nothing to take away yet, so both columns match.

    A-main P1 · qualified P1 · qual best lap 16.371 · 96.61% qual cons · 18 laps · fast 16.598 · 90.54% cons

Robert Summers had to win this race twice. The TQ led the first five laps, lost the front to Victor Burger on lap 6, and had it back on lap 14 for good. Steadiness got him there. His 90.54% was the cleanest main in the class, and he was the only driver to reach 18 laps. Add the quickest lap of the main, a 16.598, and nobody in 21.5 put a more complete night together.

    A-main P2 · qualified P2 · qual best lap 16.351 · 94.29% qual cons · 17 laps · fast 16.717 · 85.61% cons

Victor Burger had this race in his hands for the middle of the main. He took the lead off Robert Summers on lap 6 and held it through lap 13, then finished with 17 laps to the winner's 18. How does a man lead 8 laps and end up a lap down? An 85.61% main against the 90.54% Summers ran, and that is where the lap went. The pace was real, because his 16.351 in qualifying is his best 21.5 lap anywhere on the site. Put a cleaner main under that and I like his chances against anybody in this class.

    A-main P3 · qualified P3 · qual best lap 16.532 · 95.73% qual cons · 17 laps · fast 16.756 · 85.48% cons

Every qualifier was better than the last for Chris Gross, from 16 laps in Q1 to 18 in Q3, and only Summers qualified steadier than his 95.73%. Then the main came in at 85.48%. He still made the podium, 17 laps in 5:06.890 with Victor Burger in at 5:04.170 on the same lap count, and a main anywhere near his qualifying form takes second place off Burger.

    A-main P4 · qualified P4 · qual best lap 16.727 · 91.31% qual cons · 17 laps · fast 16.697 · 84.84% cons

Chuck Burns threw down the hot lap of qualifying, a 16.320, and got very little else out of it. He won his Q1 heat with 17 laps, managed 16 in each of the next two, and seeded fourth behind three drivers who all found 18. The main went the same way. His 16.697 was the second quickest lap in it, but an 84.84% run left him 17 laps in 5:12.558 and behind Gross. He couldn't string the laps together, and fourth is the bill.

    A-main P5 · qualified P9 · qual best lap 17.385 · 89.04% qual cons · 17 laps · fast 17.397 · 88.37% cons

Nobody came further than Henry Ballew. He was last in the official qualifying order, with the slowest average in qualifying at 20.160, and every driver seeded fifth through eighth finished behind him. No qualifier gave him more than 15 laps, and the main gave him 17. His 17.385 and 90.19% in qualifying are the quickest lap and the steadiest run he has on record in 21.5 anywhere on the site. Last on the grid to the 17-lap group is the best drive in this class tonight.

    A-main P6 · qualified P5 · qual best lap 16.792 · 89.26% qual cons · 16 laps · fast 17.099 · 86.21% cons

A Q2 heat win with 16 laps is worth less than it looks when two drivers in the other heat reached 18, and Steve Spears had the lowest qualifying consistency in the class at 89.26%. His main stayed down there, 86.21% over 16 laps. The fifth seed should not finish behind the ninth, and Henry Ballew, who started from the back, had 17 laps to his 16.

  7. 7th
    Jason Ruhnke 86 pts
    A-main P7 · qualified P7 · qual best lap 18.139 · 92.98% qual cons · 15 laps · fast 18.023 · 84.38% cons

Jason Ruhnke and Jordan Fortuno spent 8 laps of the main inside two seconds of each other, and Ruhnke came out in front. He did it with the slower best lap, 18.023 to Fortuno's 17.658, so he got more out of his run than the stopwatch suggests. His 15 laps in 5:01.045 kept Fortuno behind on the same lap at 5:05.979. The slowest best lap in qualifying was his, and he still held seventh against a quicker car, which earns him full marks from me.

  8. 8th
    Jordan Fortuno 84 pts
    A-main P8 · qualified P8 · qual best lap 17.675 · 92.05% qual cons · 15 laps · fast 17.658 · 83.91% cons

No 21.5 lap Jordan Fortuno has turned anywhere on the site beats the 17.658 he found in the main, and it still left him chasing Ruhnke home. The two ran together for 8 laps, and the speed was on Fortuno's side, since Ruhnke's best was 18.023. The consistency was not. Nobody in the class ran a scrappier main than his 83.91%, and that is how the quicker car came home eighth.

  9. 9th
    Zach Spears 82 pts
    A-main P9 · qualified P6 · qual best lap 17.235 · 93.35% qual cons · 14 laps · fast 19.210 · 89.11% cons

The biggest slide in the class belongs to Zach Spears, sixth on the grid and last at the flag. Qualifying had a 17.235 in it, the quickest he has gone in 21.5 anywhere on the site, and a Q3 heat win with 16 laps, even if Q2 stopped short at 12 laps. In the main, his best lap was 19.210. Something went wrong out there, because a run steady enough for 89.11% only came to 14 laps, the fewest in the A-main.

This list runs in overall order rather than by main — the A-main, then the B, then the C, as one continuous run — and a driver who bumped up appears once in it, at the finish that scored. The table above has each main as its own race.

Championship after Round 1

Robert Summers took the TQ and the win, and Victor Burger made him earn it, taking the lead on lap 6 and keeping it for 8 laps before Summers took it back on lap 14. That leaves Summers on top with 100 points to Burger's 96 and Chris Gross's 94, though after one round the standings are just the finishing order and I won't build a title fight on them. Henry Ballew is my driver of the night, last in the qualifying order and fifth at the flag. Chuck Burns had the quickest lap in qualifying at 16.320 and finished where he started, fourth, because an 84.84% main never let that speed count. Further back, Jason Ruhnke and Jordan Fortuno ran neck and neck for 8 laps, and Ruhnke kept seventh.

Through Round 1 the drop rule has nothing to take away yet, so both columns match.

A consistency figure needs at least four laps to mean anything, so a run cut shorter than that shows none.

  1. 1st
    James Dewild 100 pts
    A-main P1 · qualified P1 · qual best lap 14.682 · 92.50% qual cons · 20 laps · fast 14.815 · 94.81% cons

James Dewild TQ'd off a 20-lap Q2 and led the A-main flag to flag, and C4 still made him earn it. The two ran neck and neck for 14 of the 19 racing laps, and Dewild's answer was a 94.81% main, the steadiest he has run in this class anywhere on the site. C4 had the quicker lap in the main, 14.783 to 14.815. Dewild had the better average by 0.164 a lap and crossed the line 3.649 seconds clear, which is a magnificent way to open a series.

  2. 2nd
    C4 96 pts
    A-main P2 · qualified P2 · qual best lap 15.257 · 93.31% qual cons · 20 laps · fast 14.783 · 94.59% cons

C4 ran exactly one qualifier, and 19 laps in 5:06.203 in Q3 put Charlie Kleinhagen second on the grid. From there he stayed inside two seconds of James Dewild for 14 racing laps. His 94.59% is steadier than anything he has run on a club night and only 0.22 short of the winner's. Dewild still got home 3.649 seconds ahead. I want to see what Kleinhagen does with all three qualifiers, because one was enough to keep the winner honest.

  3. 3rd
    Mark Beach 94 pts
    A-main P3 · qualified P3 · qual best lap 15.511 · 96.33% qual cons · 19 laps · fast 15.343 · 89.46% cons

The steadiest qualifying in the class was Mark Beach's, 96.33%, and it's the best he has run in 13.5 4wd anywhere on the site. Then he ran the main at 89.46%. With 19 laps he was a lap down on the top two, and his 16.946 average gave up 1.349 a lap to James Dewild. The podium and 94 points are his, but a 15.343 best in the main is slow for a driver whose best on a club night is a 14.804.

  4. 4th
    Charlie Hicklin 92 pts
    A-main P4 · qualified P5 · qual best lap 14.574 · 83.89% qual cons · 18 laps · fast 14.528 · 75.61% cons

Charlie Hicklin turned the quickest lap in qualifying, a 14.408, and the quickest in the main, a 14.528, and still finished two laps behind the winner. A 75.61% main explains it: his 17.636 average was 2.039 a lap off James Dewild's. He gained a place on his fifth seed all the same. I'd swap a few tenths of that heater for a main in the 90s without a second thought, because nobody in the class showed more speed.

  5. 5th
    Robert Summers 90 pts
    A-main P5 · qualified P4 · qual best lap 15.646 · 93.19% qual cons · 18 laps · fast 15.812 · 92.11% cons

Level on average and still 2.839 seconds apart: Robert Summers averaged 17.639 in the main to Charlie Hicklin's 17.636, and Hicklin crossed the line ahead on the same lap. Summers got his the tidy way at 92.11%. The quick lap went missing: his best in the main was 15.812, slower than the 15.646 he turned in qualifying. Losing a spot from the fourth seed by under three seconds is the kind of night I'd want back.

  6. 6th
    Victor Burger 88 pts
    A-main P6 · qualified P6 · qual best lap 16.466 · 93.90% qual cons · 8 laps · fast 16.396 · 84.52% cons

Qualifying was the best Victor Burger has done in this class anywhere on the site: a 16.246, and 93.90% against a club-night best of 86.46%. He put 17 laps on the board in all three qualifiers. The main is the sore part, because it stopped at 8 laps and 2:30.796, and I'd hate for that to bury the rest of his night.

  7. 7th
    Chris Gross 86 pts
    A-main P7 · qualified P7 · qual best lap 15.799 · 83.83% qual cons · 2 laps · fast 17.708

Chris Gross's main lasted 24.691 seconds, so the night went wrong almost as soon as the A-main started. Qualifying had more to it. His 15.799 was 0.152 off the 15.647 he turned in a Sizzling Summer A-main, though the 88.97% around it fell well short of the 95.00% he ran at a July club night. He banks 86 points for his place, and I'd like to see that 15.799 get a full main.

This list runs in overall order rather than by main — the A-main, then the B, then the C, as one continuous run — and a driver who bumped up appears once in it, at the finish that scored. The table above has each main as its own race.

Championship after Round 1

James Dewild leads with 100 points after a night that was his from the first qualifier to the flag, and C4 is the reason it never turned into a procession. Kleinhagen started second off the only qualifier he ran and went at it with Dewild for 14 of the 19 racing laps, and 3.649 seconds at the flag is as close as anyone got. Mark Beach took third and 94 points with 19 laps to the leaders' 20, after a 96.33% qualifying turned into an 89.46% main. Charlie Hicklin owned both hot laps in the class and still finished two laps off the winner, which tells me the most speed in this field is also the least tidy. One round in, the standings are just the finishing order, but if Kleinhagen gets all three qualifiers in, I think Dewild has a real fight on his hands.

Through Round 1 the drop rule has nothing to take away yet, so both columns match.

Mark Beach topped all three qualifiers and took the TQ with the only 18-lap run in the class. In the A-main he led flag to flag and finished two laps clear of Chris Gross, which is a beating. His 97.38% is the tidiest truck run he has put together anywhere on the site, and he did it averaging 16.913 when nobody else in the main averaged under 18 seconds. That much speed with that little scatter is preposterous, and right now I don't see anybody in this class with an answer for it.

Steve Spears spent 6 of the 18 racing laps inside two seconds of Chris Gross, and it was Gross who came out of it 15.839 seconds clear on the same 17 laps. From the third seed, I've got no complaints. He did it at 93.26%, the best consistency he has posted in a truck anywhere on the site and the cleanest main in the class behind the winner. The gap to Beach is another matter entirely: two laps, and an average lap 1.565 slower.

I like what Steve Spears did with the fourth seed. He went at it with Chris Gross for 6 laps of the A-main, and while Gross was clear by the flag, Spears kept Henry Ballew 7.037 seconds behind him for the last podium spot. His 17.335 in the main beat everything he turned in qualifying. It's still well short of the 16.740 he ran in the Sizzling Summer's fourth round, his quickest in a truck anywhere on the site, so there's more in him than this.

How does the second seed, with the second-quickest lap of the A-main, finish fourth? An 87.31% main. Henry Ballew was the steadiest qualifier in the class at 93.69%, then averaged 19.875 when the points were paid, slower even than Chuck Burns, who finished a lap down on him. The 17.191 shows the speed came with him. I'd swap a chunk of it to get the qualifying rhythm back.

Something went wrong for Chuck Burns in Q1, because it stopped at 5 laps and 1:57.538. He got better from there, 14 laps in Q2 and 15 in Q3, and the 17.771 he turned in the A-main beat his best qualifying lap by 0.556. I don't love an 87.47% main. I do love a driver who keeps finding speed as the night goes on. Russell Rima finished 16.020 seconds behind him, both of them on 16 laps.

Russell Rima came out of qualifying with the slowest average in the class, 21.605, and 14 laps in every run, which is how a driver ends up seeded eighth. The main was much better. He turned a 17.601 that beat his qualifying best, and Jason Ruhnke and Zach Spears, two drivers who had lined up ahead of him, both finished behind. An 85.24% main leaves plenty of time on the table, but from the last seed I'll call two places a decent return.

Steady is Jason Ruhnke's whole game right now: 89.56% in qualifying and 89.52% in the main, which beats what Henry Ballew managed in the A-main. Pace is what holds him back. His 18.718 was the slowest best lap in qualifying, and even the 18.554 he found in the main, a personal best in a truck anywhere on the site, was beaten by six of the seven other trucks. Zach Spears was 18.664 seconds back at the flag, a fair return for running that clean.

    A-main P8 · qualified P6 · qual best lap 18.047 · 88.75% qual cons · 15 laps · fast 19.601 · 85.04% cons

Zach Spears was second only to Mark Beach in Q1, and from there the night ran downhill. By the main his best lap was a 19.601, the slowest in the A-main and 1.758 off the 17.843 he turned in qualifying, inside an 85.04% run that was the scrappiest of the eight. Finishing last from the sixth seed with that kind of speed already shown is unacceptable.

This list runs in overall order rather than by main — the A-main, then the B, then the C, as one continuous run — and a driver who bumped up appears once in it, at the finish that scored. The table above has each main as its own race.

Championship after Round 1

Mark Beach took the TQ and then won the opening round of the Saturday Showdown by two laps, and the rest of this class has a problem. Chris Gross was the best of them, and he averaged 1.565 seconds a lap slower than Beach in the main. Gross also spent a third of the race neck and neck with Steve Spears, while Henry Ballew slid from the second seed to fourth on an 87.31% main. Beach leads with 100 points and Gross sits second with 96 points, but after one round that's the finishing order with numbers on it and nothing more. The two laps are what I'd worry about if I raced a truck at Fastlane.

Through Round 1 the drop rule has nothing to take away yet, so both columns match.

Noah Hicklin didn't see the front of this A-main until lap 14, and once he had it he never gave it back. Nick Gibson had led 12 laps by then and Mitchel Gardner one, and for 8 laps the three of them ran together, each inside two seconds of the car in front. What settled it was the best average in the main, 14.337, off a 91.82% run, and Gibson crossed on the same 22 laps in 5:12.931 to his 5:05.110. Add the 13.433 heater in qualifying, the quickest lap anybody in the class turned all night, and nobody in Mod 2wd had a better Saturday.

Most laps led, the hot lap of the A-main at 13.472, and Nick Gibson still finished second. He had the front for laps 1 to 5, lost it to Gardner on lap 6, got it straight back and held it through lap 13, and from lap 14 it was Hicklin's. So how does the TQ lose from there? An 87.49% main, rougher than anyone's in the A bar Mathew Schroeder's, and an average of 14.720 to Hicklin's 14.337. Those 22 laps in 5:13.205 in Q1 earned him pole, and a main that ragged gave the win away.

Mitchel Gardner is the only driver besides Gibson and Hicklin who led a lap of this A-main, and lap 6 was his. He hung on to those two for 8 laps of their three-way fight, but 21 laps to their 22 left him a lap down at the flag, and a 13.956 best in the main was well off Gibson's 13.472. I like where his qualifying went, though: a lap more each time out, 19 up to 21, and a 13.851 that's the quickest he has turned anywhere on the site.

Best salvage job of the night belongs to William Schroeder. His first two qualifiers ended at 9 laps and then at 2, and he answered with 19 laps in 5:00.008 to win his Q3 heat and start fourth in the A. The main put him in a three-car train with Wayne Schroeder and Mathew Schroeder for 7 laps, and he came out of it with 20 laps to their 19 and 18. One of tonight's runs also came in at 92.75%, the steadiest he has been in Mod 2wd anywhere on the site.

I want more from Lane McGhee, because the speed is there. His 14.706 in qualifying is his best Mod 2wd lap anywhere on the site, and on the 17 Oct club night he put together a 95.61% A-main. This one came in at 89.02%. Wayne Schroeder came up through the B and still finished on the same 19 laps, 5:03.975 to his 5:02.679, and a driver with his lap time shouldn't have a transfer that close behind him at the flag.

Up from the B, Wayne Schroeder made the transfer pay. Only Hicklin ran a cleaner A-main than his 91.62%, and the 14.931 he found in there beat his 15.001 from qualifying. No lap of his anywhere on the site is quicker. Every qualifier put Joe Walters second in his heat with 18 laps, steady work that still left him eighth on the grid and in the B. He got out of it, and the A is where he went quickest: a 15.180, with 19 laps that kept Mathew Schroeder behind him at the flag. Both drivers who came through the B finished ahead of Mathew Schroeder, and he'd qualified straight into the A. That's on an 86.24% main, the scrappiest of the eight. His best lap in it was 14.933 to Wayne Schroeder's 14.931, as near identical as lap times get, and Wayne Schroeder still turned that into 19 laps to his 18. He had 7 laps in the group with William Schroeder and Wayne Schroeder and came out of it at the back. Qualifying was the better half, with a Q1 heat win and a 14.596, the fastest Mod 2wd lap to his name on the site.

Josh Strumillo's B-main ended at 10 laps, 2:55.725 on the clock, while Chris Rupard ran on to 18, so his night stopped well short. That's a shame, because there was pace in the car: his 15.217 beat both Joe Walters and Rupard in qualifying. The 10 laps he did get in the B ran at 91.87%, steadier than Rupard's full race, which makes the early finish hurt more.

This list runs in overall order rather than by main — the A-main, then the B, then the C, as one continuous run — and a driver who bumped up appears once in it, at the finish that scored. The table above has each main as its own race.

Championship after Round 1

Three lead changes in 21 racing laps, and Nick Gibson's TQ still wasn't enough. Gibson led 12 of those laps and Mitchel Gardner snatched lap 6, but Noah Hicklin took over on lap 14 and kept it, with the best average in the main and the hottest lap of qualifying behind him. Further back, three Schroeders ran as a group for 7 laps and William Schroeder came out of it in fourth, while Mathew Schroeder, seeded sixth, finished behind both transfers from the B. Hicklin leads with 100 points to Gibson's 96 points and Gardner's 94 points, which after one round is the finishing order and nothing more. Gibson has the TQ and the quickest lap of the main to say he belongs at the top of this class, and an 87.49% main is the one thing that kept him off it tonight.

Through Round 1 the drop rule has nothing to take away yet, so both columns match.

How does a driver who won one qualifier out of three take the TQ? Noah Hicklin did it with 22 laps in 5:03.656 in Q2, the best run anybody put together, and then led the A-main flag to flag. Nick Gibson turned the same 13.235 in the main and still finished 3.692 seconds down, because Noah Hicklin averaged 13.868 to his 14.018. Throw in a 12.981 in qualifying, the only lap under 13 in the class and his quickest in Mod 4wd anywhere on the site, and that is a magnificent night's work.

Nick Gibson did nearly everything right, and that's the best argument for how good Noah Hicklin was. He won Q1 and Q3 and ran 96.56% in qualifying, his best consistency in Mod 4wd anywhere on the site. In the A-main he matched the winner's 13.235 for the quickest lap of the race and was the tidier of the two, 93.70% to 93.21%. An average 0.150 a lap slower was enough to leave him 3.692 seconds behind at the flag, and I'd back him to close it.

Qualifying went backwards for Charlie Hicklin, 18 laps in Q1 and then 17 twice, and he lined up fourth of four. The A-main put it right. He ran 90.98% there and finished three laps clear of Josh Strumillo, the driver who had outqualified him, which is how a last seed ends up on the podium. His 14.779 in qualifying is the quickest he has gone in Mod 4wd anywhere on the site, and Strumillo never found a lap that quick at any point. Four laps down on the front two is the distance he still has to cover.

    A-main P4 · qualified P3 · qual best lap 15.393 · 92.36% qual cons · 16 laps · fast 15.423 · 46.77% cons

Josh Strumillo ran 18 laps in every qualifier and got quicker each time, and his 92.36% in qualifying is the steadiest he has been in Mod 4wd anywhere on the site. That earned him the third seed. The main came back at 46.77%. Something went wrong out there, because he averaged 19.834 a lap, more than four seconds off his own best of the race, and came home three laps behind Charlie Hicklin, who started behind him. Half his qualifying consistency in the one run that pays is a preposterous way to give back a place.

This list runs in overall order rather than by main — the A-main, then the B, then the C, as one continuous run — and a driver who bumped up appears once in it, at the finish that scored. The table above has each main as its own race.

Championship after Round 1

There's no argument about who owns the opening round of the Saturday Showdown in Mod 4wd: Noah Hicklin took the TQ and led every lap of the A-main. Nick Gibson is the only driver who can live with him. He finished on the same lap and ran the cleaner main at 93.70%, and Noah Hicklin still beat him by 3.692 seconds. Four laps further back, Charlie Hicklin came from the last seed to the podium, while Josh Strumillo's main sank to 46.77%. Noah Hicklin leads Gibson 100 points to 96, which after one round is just the finishing order and proves nothing. Only two cars finished on the lead lap, and until somebody else gets there, I'm calling this a two-car class.

Through Round 1 the drop rule has nothing to take away yet, so both columns match.

One fast lap here is not the one the timing printed. A transponder counted a lap twice, producing a time quicker than the class has ever gone from a run nowhere near that pace, so the figure shown is that driver’s quickest genuine lap of the run instead. Nothing else about it moves: the finish, the laps and time and the average are as they were raced.

Two lead changes, and Wayne Schroeder made the one that counted. He led lap 1, lost the front to Joe Walters for three laps, took it back on lap 5 and kept it to the flag, the only driver in the class to reach 20 laps. A 16.304 average, best in the main by 0.145 a lap, won it. This from the third seed, after a Q2 that stopped at 10 laps in 3:04.760. He'd turned the quickest lap in qualifying at 15.211, so the grid had him too low and he spent the main proving it.

The TQ belonged to Kevin Moyer, who won Q2 and Q3 and ran the steadiest qualifying in the class at 94.10%. He took that rhythm into the main at 94.01% and it carried him to second, but his best lap there, a 15.585, was only fifth quickest of the seven cars that turned one. Wayne Schroeder's best was 15.120, and that 0.465 is the part of the job Moyer still has to find.

Dennis Keith turned a 15.225 in qualifying, just 0.014 off Wayne Schroeder's quickest. His main never found it again: he topped out at 15.564 and ran 91.52%, well short of the 96.71% he managed in a Sizzling Summer A-main. Third from the second seed is fair. Kevin Moyer was 12.323 seconds up the road, and with Joe Walters only 2.823 seconds behind at the flag, I'd say he got away with it.

From lap 2 to lap 4 the 40+ main belonged to Joe Walters, and somewhere in it he turned a 14.860, the quickest lap in the class all night and his quickest 40+ lap anywhere on the site. Three laps in front and a heater is a lot to like. The other laps are the problem. An 87.95% run averaged 17.181, 0.877 a lap off Wayne Schroeder, and that's how a 14.860 ends up 2.823 seconds off the podium. Speed like that belongs on the box, and the consistency kept it off.

Walters averaged 17.181 to Foster's 17.776, so this was a pace gap, and I'd rather have that problem than the other one. Over the whole main he averaged 19.639, more than three seconds a lap slower, on an 83.38% run that was the scrappiest in the A-main. Timing gave him a 14.466 in Q2, 0.781 under anything else in that run, and it was refused as a bad reading. His real best there was 15.247. His best lap in the main was an 18.637, 1.100 slower than the 17.537 he turned in qualifying and 3.517 off the winning car's best. I'd keep every bit of that rhythm and go looking for the missing second.

Joshua Loyd put in three qualifiers, the best of them 16 laps in 5:17.630, and earned the seventh slot on the A-main grid. The main went off without him, so it goes down as a rough night, but the 84 points for his place are banked like anyone else's, and I'd love to see him back on that grid.

This list runs in overall order rather than by main — the A-main, then the B, then the C, as one continuous run — and a driver who bumped up appears once in it, at the finish that scored. The table above has each main as its own race.

Championship after Round 1

Wayne Schroeder leads the 40+ class with 100 points, and one round in that's just the finishing order, so the title talk can wait. The win itself was earned the hard way: he had the lead back from Joe Walters on lap 5, held it the rest of the way and averaged 16.304, 0.877 a lap better than the man with the hot lap. Walters had that 14.860 and three laps in front, and still finished fourth on an 87.95% main, which leaves the class's quickest lap 8 points off the top. Kevin Moyer turned the TQ into second and 96 points on the tidiest qualifying in the field, and rhythm like his only needs a quicker lap to start winning. Joshua Loyd's slot on the A-main grid sat empty from start to finish and still banked 84 points, and I hope to see him filling it next time out.

No laps at all in Q1, and Kevin Moyer still took the TQ and then won the A-main flag to flag with 0.003 in hand. Matt McGhee had the quicker lap and spent 9 laps within two seconds of him, and never once got in front. A 98.15% main, steadier than anyone's, is how Moyer kept it that way. Timing gave him a 12.225 in Q2, straight after a 23.080, and the two together are just a pair of ordinary 17.6-second laps read wrong, so 16.600 stands in for it.

Matt McGhee lost the A-main by 0.003 of a second, and it hurts to write. His 16.481 was the quickest lap in the class all night and the quickest he has turned in a short course truck anywhere on the site, and he spent 9 of the 18 racing laps inside two seconds of Kevin Moyer without leading one of them. How does a man win Q1 and Q2 and still start second? Seeding goes on the best run, and Moyer's 18 laps in 5:13.383 in Q3 beat anything McGhee put together. In a race that close, that grid slot was the race.

Joes Fortuno went from 13 laps in Q1 to 15 in the main, and his 18.478 in that main is his best short course lap anywhere on the site. That's still 15 laps to the leaders' 19, and there's a long way to go, but I like the direction. He did finish Q1 ahead of Kevin Moyer (who turned no laps in it), which is a line worth keeping.

This list runs in overall order rather than by main — the A-main, then the B, then the C, as one continuous run — and a driver who bumped up appears once in it, at the finish that scored. The table above has each main as its own race.

Championship after Round 1

Kevin Moyer beat Matt McGhee by 0.003 of a second, and I'll take that as an opening night for any series. The two ran neck and neck for 9 of the 18 racing laps, and McGhee had the quicker lap at 16.481 and the better average in the main, 17.148 to 17.169, without ever leading. Moyer's Q1 came back empty and he took the TQ anyway, which is the detail I like best. He leads with 100 points to McGhee's 96 and Joes Fortuno's 94, and after one round that is only the order they finished in.

Through Round 1 the drop rule has nothing to take away yet, so both columns match.

Tap Points w/ drops or Total all rounds to re-sort. Six rounds with your best five counting — the drop comes in one result at a time as the season goes, matching the track’s own standings sheet, and right now that is nothing is dropped yet — the first result comes off at Round 3. The Dropped column shows what it costs each driver. A dot is a round the class did not run; a dash is a round the driver missed.

Isaac Loyd won all three qualifiers with 14 laps every time, and that's the TQ and the night's 100 points. How does a 19.711 best lap beat a 17.595? With steadiness: Loyd ran 94.66%, his best anywhere on the site, to 83.16% from Kayson Moran, and his best run averaged 21.565 to Moran's 21.611. Three runs and 14 laps in every one of them is as complete a night as a Novice can put together.

    Kayson Moran 96 pts
ranked on qualifying · qualified P2 · qual best lap 18.083 · 83.16% qual cons

Nobody in Novice had Kayson Moran's speed. His 17.595 was the quickest lap in the class by a distance, and the only lap of his on the site that beats it is the 17.515 from the Sizzling R6 A-main. What kept him second was the laps around it: 83.16% consistency, and a Q2 of 12 laps when his other two runs made 14. Q3 shows how close he is, 14 laps in 5:02.557 to Isaac Loyd's 5:01.913. He ran a 91.22% A-main on the 26 Sep club night, and that steadiness with this speed would give anybody in the class a problem.

This list runs in overall order rather than by main — the A-main, then the B, then the C, as one continuous run — and a driver who bumped up appears once in it, at the finish that scored. The table above has each main as its own race.

Championship after Round 1

No main ran in Novice, so the track ranked the night on qualifying and the three qualifiers were the racing. Isaac Loyd took every one of them and leads with 100 points, and consistency is why, 94.66% to 83.16%. Kayson Moran brought the speed, a 17.595 that Loyd's 19.711 never got near, and he leaves with 96 points after a Q3 that finished 5:01.913 to 5:02.557 on the same 14 laps. One round in, those totals are only the order they finished. One driver with the steadiness and the other with the speed is a fine way to open a series, and I can't wait to see either of them pick up the other's half.

Through Round 1 the drop rule has nothing to take away yet, so both columns match.

How points work

First is 100, second is 96, then two points a place down the combined overall order — A‑main, then B, then C, as one continuous list. Everybody in the order scores their place, including a driver who qualified and did not start.

Six rounds, one drop: your best five count. The drop comes in one result at a time — one for every three rounds run — so until Round 3 nothing is discarded. Ties break on wins, then seconds, then thirds, then whoever’s latest race came first.
